TfL: Transport for LondonTransport for London (TfL) is responsible for implementing the Mayor's Transport Strategy for London and managing the transport services across the capital. The Mayor's vision for cycling is to make London a city where people of all ages, abilities and cultures have the incentive, confidence and facilities to cycling whenever it suits them. The London Cycling Action Plan has been developed to set out the framework and measures that will help achieve this vision and deliver lifestyle, social, economic and environmental benefits for London. The overall aim is a trebling of cycle use with a target of 80% increase in cycling by 2010. As part of the action plan TfL are improving access, cycle storage and parking, and have produced a comprehensive series of maps which cover recommended cycle routes throughout London. They are also co-ordinating marketing, events and promotional activities to provide Londoners with the information, skills and positive examples of role models that will promote the popularity of cycling. In addition TfL is establishing a research and evidence base, developing partnerships and processes so as to support the delivery of programmes and to ensure that cycling is fully integrated within wider Mayoral objectives.
